POLWEL’S BY-LAWS GOVERNING ASSOCIATE MEMBERSHIP
1. Criteria for Membership
Retired Police Officers and members of the Volunteer Special Constabulary (VSC) may apply for associate membership as provided for in By-laws 4.6 – 4.10.
All members shall:
(a) Be 16 years of age or above;
(b) Be citizens of or residents of Singapore;
(c) Be of good character;
(d) Not be legally or mentally disabled;
(e) Not be un-discharged bankrupts; and
(f) Not be convicted of an offence punishable with imprisonment.
2. Application for Membership
Application for associate membership shall be submitted on a form prescribed by the Committee. The Committee has the power to approve or reject any application without assigning any reason.
3. Rights of Associate Members
Associate Members may, unless otherwise disqualified or restricted under the Act of the By-laws, avail themselves to all services of the Society.
They however shall not:
(a) Be co-opted to hold office in the Society;
(b) Have any voting rights;
(c) Participate at delegates’ meetings;
(d) Stand for election to office; nor
(e) Be eligible for any loan financing scheme.
4. Obligations of Associate Members
Every member shall keep the Society informed of any change in his address or contact information. All notices posted or sent to his last known address shall be deemed to be served.
5. Termination of Associate Members
Associate Membership shall cease when an associate member voluntarily withdraws from such membership by giving written notice of that intention to do so. For VSCs, Associate Membership shall also cease if the officer resigns or retires.
